Panakam & Vadapappu - Sri Rama Navami Recipes

 
Today is Lord Sri Rama's Birthday - Sri Rama Navami. Panakam and Vadapappu are the special preparations for Sri Rama Navami.  Panakam is a drink made with simple ingredients which are locally available and is also a summer cooler. Vadapappu is made with split moong dal and is rich of proteins. 

Both these recipes are with simple ingredients, easy and quick and no cooking involved and very tasty.


Ingredients 

For Panakam
1 1/2 cups of Water
1 tablespoon Jaggery
1/4 teaspoon crushed ginger
1 Cardamom
1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper Powder

For Vadapappu
1 cup Split Yellow Moong Dal
3 tablespoon Grated Coconut 
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1 Green Chilli
1 tablespoon Lemon juice
2 tablespoons Chopped Coriander  

  1. Vadapappu : Soak Moong Dal in water for 30 mins. and then discard water. Cut green chilli to thin slices. Add Salt, green chilli and lemon juice to moong dal. Mix well. Grate Coconut or Cut Coconut to small pieces. Add these to moong dal. Finally add chopped coriander and mix well. 
  2. Panakam : Grate Jaggery. Mix and dissolve this in water. Add crushed ginger, crushed cardamom seeds and pepper powder to water. Mix well.  
  3. Happy Sri Rama Navami.
